What is Smart Image Kit?

Smart Image Kit is a free suite of browser-based tools for working with images and documents. It includes tools for resizing images, compressing PDFs, converting file formats, removing backgrounds, scanning documents, and extracting text (OCR) — all without requiring an account or sign-up.

Is Smart Image Kit really free?

Yes — 100% free to use. There are no hidden fees, no premium tiers, and no credit card required. Smart Image Kit is supported by ads to keep the lights on, which means all tools remain free for everyone, forever.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can use every tool on Smart Image Kit without creating an account or providing any personal information. Just open the tool and get started.

What file formats are supported?

It depends on the tool. Most image tools support JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF. PDF tools accept standard .pdf files. The Document Scanner accepts common image formats. The Image to Text (OCR) tool also accepts images containing text in 50+ languages. Each tool page lists its supported formats.

Is there a file size limit?

Some tools have soft limits to ensure fast performance in your browser. For most tools the limit is 20–50 MB per file. If you hit a limit, try compressing the file first using one of our other tools.

Privacy & Data Safety

Are my files safe? Does Smart Image Kit store them?

Your files are never stored on our servers. Files are processed in-memory for the duration of a single request and discarded immediately afterwards. We have no access to the contents of your files after the request completes.

Do some tools process files locally in my browser?

Yes. Several tools — including Background Remover, Image to Text (OCR), and Document Scanner — run entirely inside your browser using modern Web APIs. For these tools your files never leave your device at all.

Does Smart Image Kit share my files with third parties?

Never. Your files are never shared with, sold to, or accessed by any third party. The only third-party service involved in file processing is our hosting provider, which processes requests in isolated, ephemeral containers.

Is my connection to Smart Image Kit secure?

Yes. All traffic between your browser and Smart Image Kit is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS.

Does Smart Image Kit use cookies or tracking?

We use a single functional cookie to remember your theme preference (dark/light mode) and Google Analytics for anonymous, aggregate traffic metrics. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Tools & Features

How does the Image Resizer work?

Upload an image, choose your target file size or exact pixel dimensions, and download the resized result. Processing happens on our servers using a high-performance image library for maximum quality.

How does the Background Remover work?

It uses an AI model that runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. No image data is sent to any server — the removal happens locally on your device.

How does the Document Scanner work?

Upload a photo of a document, drag the four corner handles to align with the document edges, then pick a filter (Original, B&W, Grayscale, Color, Magic, Light). The tool applies a perspective correction (homography warp) to produce a flat, scan-like result.

How accurate is the Image to Text (OCR) tool?

Accuracy depends on image quality. Clear, high-contrast images with printed text give the best results. Handwriting is supported but typically less accurate. The tool supports 50+ languages and can auto-detect the language if you leave all languages selected (the default).

Can I process multiple files at once?

Some tools support batch processing — for example, Image to PDF lets you combine multiple images, and Image to Text supports a multi-image queue. Check the individual tool page for details.

Feature Requests & Bug Reports

How do I request a new feature or tool?

Use the Contact page to send us a feature request. Describe the tool or improvement you need — the more detail the better. We review all requests and use them to prioritise our roadmap.

How do I report a bug?

Go to the Contact page and select "Bug Report" as the subject. Please include what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. A screenshot or example file (if you're comfortable sharing it) helps us reproduce and fix the issue faster.

How quickly do you respond to bug reports?

We aim to acknowledge all reports within 2 business days. Critical bugs that affect data integrity are treated as top priority. We'll follow up via email if you provide one.

Will my requested feature definitely be built?

We can't guarantee every request will be implemented, but every submission is read and considered. Popular requests that align with our mission (free, privacy-first, browser-based tools) are prioritised.

Technical

Which browsers are supported?

Smart Image Kit works best on the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. Some tools use WebAssembly and modern browser APIs, so we recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience.

Does Smart Image Kit work on mobile?

Yes. All tools are fully responsive and work on modern mobile browsers. For tools involving precise dragging (like Document Scanner corner handles), a desktop may give a better experience.

Why is the first run of a browser-based tool slow?

Some tools (Background Remover, OCR) need to download AI model files or WebAssembly modules the first time you use them. These are cached by your browser, so subsequent uses are much faster.
